Which garage door opener fits your garage?

Updated

Six answers, no horsepower. The checker looks at the door height, the clear path on the ceiling, the spring type, the wall space beside the torsion bar and whether you need battery backup. Then it says which picks fit as sold, which need a kit, and which are out.

Safety first. Springs, cables and bottom brackets are under extreme tension. Chamberlain's support pages say to never loosen, move or adjust them, and to always call a trained door technician if the door binds, sticks or is out of balance. DASMA, the door makers' trade group, says spring systems should be repaired only by trained professionals.

A rough guide from listings and maker pages read on September 19, 2026. Look only. Do not touch the springs, cables or brackets. The ceiling path numbers are Chamberlain's published lengths. We use them as a planning number for the Genie rails too, so check the manual for the exact length before you buy.

How to measure

The numbers behind it

Chamberlain's chart gives the longest installed length as 128 inches with the standard rail, 142 inches with the 8 ft rail and 166 inches with the 10 ft rail. That is 14 more inches of clear ceiling for an 8 ft door. The checker uses those figures for every rail pick as a planning number. Genie's rails may differ, so confirm in the manual.

Take the third row. At 8 ft, none of the 5 rail picks fit as sold. Each needs its own kit: Genie QuietLift Connect (3053-TKV) takes the Genie 39026R (EKTB), Genie Chain Drive 750 (7035-TKV) takes the Genie EKTC (39027R), Genie SilentMax 1000 (3042-TKH) takes the Genie EKBC (37302R), and so on. The wall mounts do not care about height until 14 ft.

What the checker does not know

It cannot see if your door is balanced, if the top panel needs a reinforcement bracket, or how much room there is between the top of the door and the ceiling. DASMA says some do-it-yourselfers skip the reinforcement bracket and damage the door. The opener's manual covers all three. If the door is heavy to lift by hand, stop and call a door technician before you buy anything.
